APKMirror Installer (Official)

APKMirror Installer enables you to install standard APKs as well as app bundle files in .apkm, .xapk, and .apks formats.

What can this app do?

APKMirror Installer is a utility that assists in installing regular APK files along with .apkm, .xapk, and .apks app bundle packages.

As a highly requested bonus feature for standard APK files, if a sideload attempt fails, you can now view the precise failure reason by starting the installation process through APKMirror Installer.

What are Split APKs?

Google introduced a new dynamic app delivery format called Android App Bundles at Google I/O in mid-2018. We suggest reviewing this AndroidPolice article, as its visuals help clarify the concept.

Here's a brief overview. Before app bundles, developers typically built a single comprehensive APK containing all libraries and resources, or manually handled multiple APK variants (like arm64 320dpi, x86 320dpi, and so on).

With Android App Bundles, developers can shift the complexity of managing variants to Google, which then divides the app release into several components—hence the term "split APKs." Each release includes a base APK and one or more APK splits.

For instance, a single release might now consist of five files: base.apk, arm64.split.apk, 320dpi.split.apk, en-us.lang.split.apk, and es-es.lang.split.apk.

However, you cannot install these split APKs just by tapping on them. Installing only the base APK will cause the app to crash due to missing resources.

This is where APKMirror Installer steps in.

So, what are .apkm files?

With many apps adopting the split APK format—which isn't easy to share or install without a helper tool—APKMirror has created a solution to adapt and continue offering simple, secure sideloading options.

Every .apkm file contains a base APK and a set of split APKs. After installing APKMirror Installer and downloading your desired .apkm file, simply tap it or use the app to locate the download. You can examine the exact contents of each .apkm file and choose only the splits you wish to install, helping save device storage.

Developing APKMirror Installer and its supporting infrastructure took several months at significant expense, so we hope you understand why the app and website include ads. For users who prefer an ad-free experience, various subscription options are available to remove ads and access extra features.

Issues and Bugs

Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco MIUI Users

Unfortunately, Xiaomi has modified MIUI—and specifically the Android component that APKMirror Installer relies on for installing split APKs.

A workaround that often helps is to disable MIUI optimizations in the developer settings. Please give this a try, and installation should proceed successfully.

Note: This app is a file management utility and does not include direct app store functionality such as browsing websites or updating apps automatically, as that would violate the Google Play Store Terms of Service.
