Jason Isaacs Suggests Unexpected Actor for Lucius Malfoy in HBO's Harry Potter Series

While Thailand may be a world away from the magical corridors of Hogwarts, Jason Isaacs, known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films and currently starring in The White Lotus Season 3, has shared his intriguing casting choice for the upcoming HBO Harry Potter TV series. In a recent interview with Variety, Isaacs suggested none other than the legendary Meryl Streep to take on the role of Lucius Malfoy.

"Meryl Streep," Isaacs declared, emphasizing her versatility. "She can do anything, that woman. There’s literally no limit to what she can do." Streep, who has previously portrayed a male character in the HBO miniseries Angels in America, could indeed bring a unique perspective to the role of the cunning Malfoy.

Despite his bold suggestion, Isaacs refrained from offering any advice to potential Lucius Malfoy actors, including Streep. "I wouldn’t have any advice at all. Why would I bother?" he remarked. He expressed confidence in the new cast, mentioning that he knows some of the actors already involved and believes they will make the series fantastic.

Isaacs first portrayed Lucius Malfoy in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and continued to play the character through to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2." As for the upcoming HBO adaptation, the only confirmed casting at the time of this article is John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, a role previously filled by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.

Additionally, there are rumors swirling around the casting of other pivotal roles. Paapa Essiedu from Black Mirror is reportedly close to being cast as Severus Snape, a role originally played by Alan Rickman, while Janet McTeer from Jessica Jones is said to be in consideration for Minerva McGonagall, previously portrayed by Maggie Smith. However, these roles have not yet been officially confirmed.
