Durak: Classic & Transferable

The card game "Durak" (also known as "Fool" or "Dumb") is perhaps one of the most popular and widespread card games in the former Soviet Union. In this version, you can play Durak offline without an internet connection, using a deck of 24, 36, or 52 cards.

Durak (Fool) has two main variants: "Throw-in Fool" (Durak Podkidnoy) and "Transferable Fool" (Durak Perevodnoy). The rules for both versions share some similarities but also have their own unique nuances.

The goal of the game is to get rid of all your cards as quickly as possible. The first player to do so wins. The last player left with cards becomes the "fool" (durak).

Throw-in Fool (Durak Podkidnoy) is the classic version. In this mode, when the attacker has no more cards to throw at the defender, the player to the defender's left takes over. This player can initially throw only one card. Once that card is beaten, the throwing turn returns to the first attacker. If the left-hand player has nothing to throw, the opportunity passes clockwise to the next player. All players can throw cards, but they must wait for their turn, which is why this variant is called "Throw-in Fool" or simply "Classic Durak."

Transferable Fool (Durak Perevodnoy) extends the rules, making the game more exciting. Starting from the second move, a defending player can "transfer" an attacking card by placing another card of the same rank but a different suit on the table. The player to their left then becomes the new defender. That player can also choose to transfer cards, and so on. This chain of transfers gives the game its name, "Transferable Fool."
