Tantalus Media, renowned for its work on Nintendo remasters like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and Skyward Sword HD, has been unveiled as the developer behind the upcoming Luigi's Mansion 2 HD for Nintendo Switch. The original Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2013, saw Luigi embark on a ghostly adventure to collect fragments of the Dark Moon and capture King Boo.
Nintendo announced the Switch remake last September and confirmed its June 27th release date this past March. The game's file size was revealed shortly after a new trailer showcased its storyline. While the release date is fast approaching, the developer remained a secret until recently.
VGC reported that Tantalus Media, an Australian studio, is credited as the developer in Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, taking over from the original developer, Next Level Games. Beyond its Zelda remaster work, Tantalus Media's portfolio includes the Nintendo Switch port of Sonic Mania, the PC port of House of the Dead, and contributions to the Age of Empires 1-3: Definitive Editions.
Zelda Remaster Studio Tantalus Media Confirmed for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD
Initial reviews for Luigi's Mansion 2 HD are positive, praising it as another successful Nintendo remaster, akin to Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. However, the game has unfortunately encountered pre-order issues similar to Paper Mario, with Walmart canceling orders earlier this month.
The confirmation of Tantalus Media as the developer comes just days before the game's launch. This mirrors Nintendo's previous practice of keeping developer information under wraps until close to release, as seen with Super Mario RPG's developer, ArtePiazza. Similarly, the developer of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Fury remains undisclosed, suggesting a continuation of this trend.
