Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal With Cake Image

Author : Emma Update:May 22,2025

It’s been six years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania masterpiece Hollow Knight. Over these years, fans have eagerly awaited updates, with Silksong appearing and disappearing from various gaming showcases. Notably, Microsoft once seemed to confirm a launch before June 2023, yet The Game Awards passed without a mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Now, with the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, could this finally be the moment fans have been waiting for?

The excitement stems from a seemingly innocuous change: a picture of a chocolate cake. Here’s the story.

Keen observers on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that on January 15, Team Cherry's co-director William Pellen switched his Twitter/X profile picture to an image of a chocolate cake. Pellen tweeted: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow.”

At the time, rumors were swirling that Nintendo would reveal the Switch 2 on January 16, and indeed, that's when the announcement came. However, many questions remain about the next-gen console. Was Pellen hinting at the Switch 2 reveal? And if so, what was the significance?

This sparked a frenzy within the Hollow Knight community. Fans conducted reverse image searches on the cake picture, which led them to a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe on Bon Appétit, published on April 2, 2024.

Why is this date significant? Because Nintendo has scheduled the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 for Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans speculate that Pellen’s tweet and cake image might be the start of a Silksong alternate reality game (ARG).

The intrigue doesn't end there. Fans are also deciphering Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True proposed an intriguing theory: “The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of ‘everydruidwaswr.’ I think ‘wr’ is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC.”

Adding to the mystery, Pellen's new X/Twitter name is "little bomey." Fans have connected this to Little Boomey, a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, though the spelling differs. What could this signify?

It’s important to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. However, that was six years ago. Could Nintendo have secured Hollow Knight: Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this all just wild speculation from eager fans?

We'll have to wait a few months to find out. In the meantime, be sure to check out everything announced at Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
