Following the release of X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge, Edwards began work on a title tentatively called "The Invincible Iron Man," a nod to the character's original comic book name. A subsequent post showcased original Xbox gameplay footage, including the startup screen and a tutorial segment set in a desert environment.

Despite positive fan reaction to Edwards' reveals, Activision canceled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards offered several potential reasons: delays in the film's release, dissatisfaction with the game's quality, or perhaps another developer's competing project.

Many commenters noted the game's Iron Man design, significantly different from Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU portrayal. Predating the MCU by almost five years, the suit design closely resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version from the early 2000s. Edwards stated that the design was the artist's choice. He promised further gameplay footage, but at the time of writing, this has yet to be released.
