What Are Legendary Sumi-E in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Legendary Sumi-E are special ancient paintings of animals that you can create as either Naoe or Yasuke while exploring the wilds. When you're near a potential subject, a painting icon will appear on your compass and map. To capture these moments, you need to crouch and sneak up on your target. Once you're close enough, hold L2/LT to complete the painting. However, the challenge with Legendary Sumi-E is that they don't appear on the map, making them harder to find. There are five such legendary paintings, each available during specific seasons and times of day.

Legendary Tanuki – Summer, Daytime

To find the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, head to the Omi region during summer, specifically during the day. Navigate to the Shimmering Fields, and locate the Shigaraki Hamlet. You'll know you're in the right spot when you see Tanuki statues around. Follow the path upward until you reach a clearing where the legendary Tanuki awaits. Take your time to approach and complete the drawing.

Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime

The Grey Heron is found in Wakasa, in the Lake Suigetsu area, during winter and daytime. Make your way to the cluster of islands west of Lake Suigetsu. Approach cautiously, as the terrain is flat. Dismount at a safe distance, walk to the marked area, and slowly crouch toward your target to complete the Sumi-E.

Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime

For the Legendary Macaque Sumi-E, travel to the Yamashiro region and locate the Little Leaf Glade sub-region. Head to the Sarumaru Shrine near the mountains. Wait until night, then climb the stairs to the top where you'll find the three wise monkeys. Capture their serene moment with your drawing.

Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime

The Silver Fox can be found at night during Autumn in the Kii region, specifically in the Nakahechi Route sub-region. Visit the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, where fox statues adorn the temple. At the cliff’s edge, you'll find this elusive creature. Approach and capture its beauty with your Sumi-E.

Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime

To find the Legendary Deer, go to the Yamato region and head to the Yoshino sub-region. The nearest fast-travel point is the Mountain Blossom Temple to the west. Follow the path east to reach the Sakura Meadows. Climb the slopes to the clearing where the deer awaits to be immortalized in your Sumi-E collection.

Keep in mind that even if you're at the right location during the correct time, there's a chance the animals won't spawn. If that happens, try fast-traveling to a nearby location and returning to see if luck is on your side. With persistence, you'll soon complete your collection.
