"Age of Empires Mobile Introduces Mercenary Troops System"

Author : Ava Update:May 07,2025

Ever dreamed of witnessing Joan of Arc commanding Roman Centurions or Hannibal Barca deploying Japanese Samurai to conquer Rome? The latest update to Age of Empires Mobile makes this fantasy a reality with the introduction of the Mercenary Troops system. This innovative feature lets you recruit and command units traditionally unavailable to your faction, adding a thrilling layer of strategy to your gameplay.

Starting at level 26, players can unlock the Mercenary Camp, a new structure designed specifically for contracting and recruiting these elite warriors. Not only can you bring these mercenaries into your army, but you can also unlock and upgrade tech to enhance their prowess on the battlefield. To sweeten the deal, a new event is now live, allowing you to secure your first batch of mercenaries at no cost.

The roster of Mercenary units is diverse and exciting, featuring Byzantine Cataphracts, Swiss Pikemen, Persian Immortals, Indian Battle Elephants, Roman Centurions, Egyptian Chariot Archers, Japanese Samurai, and Korean Archers. Each unit comes with its own set of technologies that can be unlocked to bolster their already impressive combat capabilities.

The addition of the Mercenary Troops system evokes memories of Total War games, where hiring a horde of swords-for-hire could turn the tide of battle. However, this feature might be divisive among players, with some potentially viewing it as a disruption to the game's balance. Only time will tell how this new system will be received by the Age of Empires Mobile community. Perhaps future updates could even introduce custom units like the historical Landsknechts, expanding the possibilities even further.
