The highly anticipated Amazon adaptation of the acclaimed video game, *God of War*, has been confirmed for not one, but two seasons even before its premiere. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore, stepping in after the exit of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, shared insights into his new venture during a chat with Katee Sackhoff, his former colleague from *Battlestar Galactica*.
"Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore revealed. He's currently immersed in the writers' room, crafting the narrative for this ambitious project. Despite admitting that he's not a seasoned gamer, Moore expressed his enthusiasm for classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede, though he humorously noted his struggles with modern game controllers. "‘Press R1.’ Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," he recounted.
Moore, who will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series, brings a wealth of experience from his work on *Star Trek: The Next Generation*, *Deep Space Nine*, and as the showrunner for the critically acclaimed 2000s *Battlestar Galactica*. Despite the departure of some team members, Sony's Cory Barlog remains on board as an executive producer, ensuring the project stays true to its roots. The series will be based on the 2018 installment of *God of War*, promising fans a faithful adaptation of the beloved game.
Amazon's swift renewals of other video game adaptations, such as the *Fallout* TV show and *Secret Level*, following their successful launches, suggest a promising future for *God of War* on the streaming platform. Fans of the franchise can look forward to an engaging and expansive series that captures the epic essence of the game.
