At the start of Citizen Sleeper 2, you'll choose from three distinct classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. This guide helps you decide which best suits your playstyle.
Which Citizen Sleeper 2 Class Should You Choose?
The ideal class depends entirely on your preferred playstyle. Having completed the game, here's my assessment of each, covering abilities and roleplaying potential.
Operator
The Operator begins with a +1 in Interface, base levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer. Endure is unlevelable. Their ability lets them gain Stress to reroll their lowest die.
While powerful later, the Operator's early game can be challenging. Interface is a strong skill, but the initial struggles might deter some. The reroll ability, while useful, doesn't guarantee a better outcome. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator is versatile, adaptable to various character concepts.
Machinist
The Machinist starts with a +1 in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage is unlevelable. Their ability trades Stress for +2 to their lowest die, also reducing Stress by 2 on a positive outcome. This benefit increases as the game progresses.
My personal favorite, the Machinist proved invaluable during my first playthrough. The ability is consistently helpful, especially since Engineer and Interface checks are frequent. The early Stress reduction is a huge boon, mitigating a major game mechanic challenge. Roleplaying-wise, this class appeals to those interested in the game's technical and mechanical aspects.
Extractor
The Extractor begins with a +1 in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is unlevelable. Their ability uses Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, with upgrades enhancing crew member rolls later.
The Extractor's ability is excellent for managing Contract risks. The starting Endure bonus is beneficial given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, I often found myself with crew members already proficient in Endure and Engage. Roleplaying-wise, the Extractor suits players who prefer a more aggressive, resilient character.
