Black Beacon, the gacha action-RPG, recently launched its global beta test, and we dove in headfirst to see if it lives up to the hype. Ready to find out if this is the next mobile gacha giant?
Setting and Story
The game unfolds within the enigmatic Library of Babel, a setting inspired by Jorge Luis Borges' short story. This isn't your average library; it's a vast, potentially infinite collection of every possible book, echoing the biblical Tower of Babel in its ambition. The blend of Judeo-Christian mythology and the story's unique premise is a refreshing change of pace from typical gacha game settings.
You play as The Seer, awakening in this strange library with a weighty destiny: becoming the new custodian of the Babel Library. Your arrival triggers significant changes, including a monstrous emergence from the depths, time-travel shenanigans, and a ticking clockwork star threatening everything. The story is intriguing and sets a compelling stage for the gameplay.
Gameplay
Black Beacon offers a 3D free-roaming experience, allowing you to explore from a top-down or free camera perspective, easily switching between views with a pinch gesture. Real-time combat is the heart of the game, featuring fluid combos and exciting character-switching mechanics. Switching characters mid-battle allows benched characters to regenerate stamina faster, encouraging strategic team management. It's a system that rewards timing and awareness, avoiding mindless button-mashing. The diverse cast of characters, each with unique combat styles, keeps the gameplay fresh and engaging.
