Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 Leak Hints at Free 4-Star Character Selector
A recent leak suggests Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 will include a free 4-star character selector, potentially as part of a limited-time event. This selector would allow players to choose one of four units: Qingque, Pela, Serval, or Asta.
This news comes amidst a trend of increased 5-star character releases in Honkai: Star Rail, leaving fewer 4-star additions. While some 4-stars remain valuable in specific team compositions, they often require significant Eidolon investment to reach their full potential. Past updates offered free character selectors, facilitating Eidolon acquisition. This leaked selector in Version 3.1 appears to follow that pattern.
The leaked selector features characters from the game's initial 1.0 cycle, with Asta even being readily available early on. This aligns with rumors suggesting a focus on 5-star characters in upcoming updates, potentially indicating a slowdown in 4-star unit releases.
The four selectable characters—Qingque (Quantum, Erudition), Pela (Ice, Nihility), Serval (Lightning, Erudition), and Asta (Fire, Harmony)—are all purchasable in the in-game store. While Pela and Asta maintain their utility as supports, Qingque and Serval have been somewhat overshadowed by newer DPS characters.
The disparity between 5-star and 4-star character numbers is significant, with nearly 40 5-star units compared to 23 4-star units. The upcoming Amphoreus update is expected to introduce eight more 5-star characters, further widening the gap. A rumored Honkai: Star Rail and Fate/Stay Night crossover could add two more.
The 2.0 cycle only saw four new 4-star characters (including March 7th's alternate form), raising concerns about the future availability of new units for similar selectors. Despite this, Version 3.0's highly anticipated additions of Herta and Aglaea, along with recently released redeem codes for Stellar Jades and materials, offer players much to look forward to.
