There's a fresh system update available for your Xbox console - though likely not the one you anticipated.
If you're among those still using an Xbox 360, Microsoft has released a new dashboard update with several adjustments for the legacy console - most noticeably featuring a prominent advertisement for Xbox Series X/S.
Microsoft appears eager to encourage Xbox 360 users to upgrade, with the new ads displaying current-generation Xbox Series X/S models alongside messaging urging players to "upgrade today" for "next-gen performance" - though technically this would now be two generations ahead.
The update conveniently includes a scannable QR code that directs users to the Microsoft Store, where they can browse the company's recently adjusted console pricing.
Following Microsoft's shutdown of the Xbox 360 Marketplace last year, which removed store-related dashboard elements, this update provides some visual cleanup. There's also a welcome fix for stretched game tile artwork that previously appeared on the console interface.

The Xbox 360 will celebrate its 20th anniversary this November, having launched originally on November 22, 2005. While Microsoft has moved on from the console, this update shows the company hasn't forgotten its legacy user base.
The unexpected update has been well-received by those still enjoying their Xbox 360 consoles. One Reddit user commented: "Finally it looks better!" while another noted: "At least it doesn't look depressing anymore."
A third enthusiast shared: "I had to check this out myself. This is why I love Xbox - they listened to users when they could have easily left us with a broken dashboard. They didn't have to do this, but they did."
Meanwhile, Microsoft recently unveiled new Xbox hardware collaborations including the ASUS ROG Ally X handheld device. The company is also developing next-generation console hardware, though specific release details remain under wraps.
