Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order date and pricing details for the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accessories. Despite maintaining the console's price, there have been significant adjustments to the costs of accessories, sparking discussions among early adopters and potentially influencing their pre-order decisions.
The Nintendo Switch 2 remains priced at $449.99 for the base model, with the bundle that includes Mario Kart World set at $499.99. Mario Kart World, a popular kart racing game, is available as a standalone purchase for $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza is priced at $69.99.
However, the accessory prices have seen an upward adjustment across the board. Here's a detailed breakdown:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair - $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip - $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap - $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set - $24.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - $54.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set - $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector - $39.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 All-In-One Carrying Case - $84.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter - $34.99
Nintendo's official announcement on its website stated that the price adjustments for Switch 2 accessories were due to "changes in market conditions." Notably, significant items such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair, Switch 2 Pro Controller, and the camera saw a consistent $5 increase. The Switch 2 Dock Set, however, experienced a $10 hike, bringing its price to $119.99 from the previous $109.99.
The community has expressed concern over the increased cost, particularly the nearing triple-digit price for an additional Joy-Con 2 Pair, which has left many prospective buyers puzzled by the expense.
Amidst the pricing concerns, there's some relief as Nintendo has confirmed that many original Switch accessories remain compatible with the Switch 2. According to the support site, original Joy-Con controllers and the Nintendo Switch 1 Pro controller can be paired wirelessly with the new console, although the former cannot be directly attached. Retro enthusiasts can also rejoice as Super Nintendo and N64 controllers will still be usable with compatible games.

Social media platforms are buzzing with discussions about the compatibility of Switch 1 accessories and the possibility of using third-party controller options. While these alternatives may lack some advanced features like the C-button or the ability to wake the console, they present a cost-saving opportunity for many.
Nintendo has also cautioned that future price adjustments are possible, stating, "Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions." This news offers a small comfort to those with existing Pro controllers, knowing they can still use them with the Switch 2.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 are scheduled to begin on April 24, 2025.
