The eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025, and is expected to create quite a stir among gamers worldwide. To combat scalping and ensure genuine fans secure their units, Nintendo has introduced pre-order measures on the My Nintendo Store. Users with a Nintendo Account can express interest in purchasing either the base system or a bundle featuring Mario Kart: Wild World. Once their spot in line is reached, they will receive an invitation email valid for 72 hours.
To qualify, users must have logged at least 50 total gameplay hours on their current Switch and maintained a minimum of 12 months of active Nintendo Switch Online membership as of April 2, 2025. These invitations are non-transferable and linked directly to the associated Nintendo Account email address. Additionally, there will be a one-per-account limit per accessory during the invitation phase.
Orders placed will ship post-purchase, with approximate shipping dates provided upon checkout. However, Nintendo cautions that day-of-delivery is not guaranteed due to processing and shipping timelines.
This approach mirrors Valve's successful queue system for the Steam Deck, aiming to prioritize legitimate buyers over opportunistic scalpers. While other channels for acquiring the Switch 2 will exist, these measures aim to provide existing Switch owners a more streamlined path to securing their device.

Scalping has historically plagued high-demand console launches, notably affecting the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Pokémon Trading Card Game has also faced persistent scalping challenges. By tying purchases to verified accounts and enforcing usage criteria, Nintendo hopes to minimize such issues.
