Disappointment for Switch gamers hoping to experience Palworld: a Switch version is currently off the table. This early access survival game, boasting a collection of Pokémon-esque creatures, enjoyed a surge in popularity following its early 2024 release, but enthusiasm has since cooled. However, upcoming updates aim to reignite interest.
The Sakurajima Update, arriving June 27th, is the game's most substantial update yet. It introduces a new island, additional creatures ("Pals"), challenging bosses, a higher level cap, and dedicated servers for Xbox players. While this update is expected to draw players back, it's currently exclusive to PC and Xbox.
Currently, Palworld is an Xbox console exclusive, with PlayStation plans underway. This raises the question of a Switch port. Unfortunately, Pocketpair's Takuro Mizobe stated in an interview with Game File (via VGC) that porting to Switch is challenging due to technical limitations; the Switch's hardware may be insufficient. Future Nintendo consoles, however, remain a possibility.
Palworld's Uncertain Future on Nintendo Platforms
The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, with its anticipated performance boost, could potentially run Palworld. The game's current availability on the nearly 11-year-old Xbox One suggests this is feasible. However, Palworld's thematic similarity to Nintendo's Pokémon franchise might present an obstacle to a Nintendo release.
While a Nintendo release remains uncertain, portable play is still an option. Palworld reportedly performs well on the Steam Deck, offering handheld gaming for PC users. Furthermore, rumors of an Xbox handheld could potentially add another platform for Palworld.
