The Pokémon Company has announced the Pokémon Fossil Museum will debut in North America in May 2026.
For those unfamiliar, the Pokémon Fossil Museum is precisely what its name suggests. Following its successful Japanese debut, this unique exhibition — which juxtaposes fabricated Pokémon "fossils" with actual prehistoric specimens — will open at Chicago's Field Museum on May 22, 2026. This marks the exhibition's first international showing outside Japan.
"Visitors will experience an immersive display featuring colorful Pokémon models alongside genuine fossils from the Field Museum's collection," shared museum representatives. "Scientific casts including SUE the T. rex and Chicago's Archaeopteryx will appear alongside Fossil Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Archeops. Trainers, see how many differences — and surprising similarities — you can spot!"

For international fans unable to visit Japan or Chicago, The Pokémon Company and Toyohashi Museum of Natural History offer a digital alternative. Pokémon enthusiasts can now enjoy a comprehensive virtual tour online, comparing authentic tyrannosaurus specimens with their Pokémon counterparts like Tyrantrum from home.
In other Pokémon-related updates, authorities recently apprehended a UK man found in possession of stolen Pokémon cards valued at £250,000 (approximately $332,500). Greater Manchester Police uncovered the collection during a raid in Hyde, with an officer humorously referencing the franchise's famous catchphrase in their official statement.
