Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtest for the Highly Anticipated "skate." Now Live!
Exciting news for console gamers! The long-awaited "skate." title, a fresh installment in the beloved Skate franchise, is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been enjoying early access since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for console players to experience a new Skate game in over a decade.
The Skate franchise, dormant since Skate 3's 2010 release, has seen a fervent resurgence of fan support. The persistent #Skate4 hashtag finally caught EA's attention, leading to the creation of a dedicated development studio and the eventual announcement of "skate." Initially slated for early access in 2025, this console playtest signifies significant progress.
Via the official "skate." Twitter account, Xbox and PlayStation users can now participate in the playtest through the "skate." Insider program (registration required). A recent video featuring developers confirmed additional Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement timeframe.
Confirmed as a free-to-play, live-service game, "skate." is set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, a work-in-progress inspired by various real-world and previous Skate game locations. While a map leak surfaced in 2023, its current state remains uncertain. Fans can either join the playtest or patiently await the wider release.
Other Skate Games to Enjoy While You Wait
Despite the planned 2025 early access launch, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games offer enjoyable alternatives until "skate." officially arrives.
