Should You Give the Splinter of Eothas Relic to Sargamis in Avowed?

Author : Andrew Update:Mar 25,2025

In Avowed, the decision to give or withhold the Splinter of Eothas from Sargamis significantly alters the game's progression and outcomes. Here’s a detailed look at what happens depending on your choice.

What Happens If You Don’t Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

Refusing to give Sargamis the Splinter of Eothas triggers a confrontation. Sargamis becomes an optional boss with a large health bar, presenting a challenging fight early in the game. He summons two spirit creatures that primarily target Kai, leaving you to focus on Sargamis. His combat style includes swift thrusting attacks with his sword, allowing him to cover large distances quickly. However, he is vulnerable to ice spells, which can be used to freeze and slow him down.

Upon defeating Sargamis, you are rewarded with the Last Light of Day mace, a unique-class weapon that restores three percent of your health upon defeating an enemy and adds a ten percent bonus to fire damage on your attacks.

What Happens If You Give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed?

If you agree to give the Splinter to Sargamis, you face several subsequent choices. You can change your mind and refuse, leading to the same combat scenario as above. Alternatively, you can persuade Sargamis to place himself in the statue, which results in his death and grants you the Last Light of Day mace.

Another path involves offering yourself to the statue. If you stand in the designated circle and wait for Sargamis to activate the machine, you will die but earn the “Get In The Statue, Envoy” achievement. Reloading the game will revert you to the point before entering the circle. If you decide to leave the circle prematurely, Sargamis will attack you in rage.

How To Finish Dawntreader Without Killing Sargamis in Avowed

The optimal way to handle the Splinter of Eothas situation without violence is to convince Sargamis that his plan is doomed to fail. This requires an Intellect stat of 4 or higher. If you need to adjust your attributes, refer to our Avowed respec guide.

Place the Splinter in the statue before speaking to Sargamis, then activate the machine. After it fails, engage in conversation with Sargamis and persuade him that his plan won’t succeed. Avoid choosing the intellect option about live soul transfer and guide him towards understanding that Eothas is gone. This approach leads Sargamis to abandon his plan.

After he leaves, you can decide whether to allow the voice to use the statue or destroy it yourself. Then, locate Sargamis in his quarters for a final conversation, concluding this segment of the Dawntreader quest with a higher experience reward than if you had fought him or handed over the Splinter.

This guide covers the various outcomes of deciding whether to give the Splinter of Eothas to Sargamis in Avowed. For those new to the game, consider checking out our Avowed beginner’s guide for additional tips and strategies.
