Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's debut venture into the iconic franchise, is slated to close its doors just over a year after its initial launch on iOS and Android. The game, which debuted in June 2024, quickly captured attention with its unique blend of game show flair and innovative takes on Star Wars archetypes.
It has now been announced that Star Wars: Hunters will cease operations on October 1st of this year. A final content update is scheduled to be released on April 15th. In the wake of this announcement, Zynga has confirmed that in-game currency will be eligible for refunds and certain seasonal events will be rerun as part of an extended season three.
Fans eagerly anticipating the arrival of the final hunter, Tuya, will still have the chance to play with her in multiplayer. Tuya will be introduced in the final content update and will be available to all players at no cost from the start.
Story's Over
The announcement of Star Wars: Hunters' closure came as a surprise, with little prior indication that the game was underperforming. Given Zynga's strong market position, it suggests there may be deeper reasons for the decision to shelve the game. One possible explanation could be the oversaturation of the pseudo-hero shooter genre, coupled with a shift in the Star Wars audience towards an older demographic less inclined towards high-octane mobile multiplayer experiences.
