Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, better known as Dr Disrespect, has acknowledged inappropriate messaging with an underage individual as the reason for his Twitch ban. This admission sheds light on his departure from the platform after years of speculation. His June 26th ban anniversary prompted a former Twitch employee, Cody Conners, to allege that Dr Disrespect was banned for "sexting a minor" via Twitch Whispers.
Initially, Dr Disrespect denied wrongdoing, citing a previously settled agreement. However, three days later, he issued a public statement confirming inappropriate conversations with a minor via Twitch Whispers in 2017, three years before his ban. He stressed that while the conversations were inappropriate, there were no malicious intentions and no in-person meeting occurred. This directly counters Conners' claim that Dr Disrespect aimed to meet the minor at TwitchCon. His statement garnered millions of views within hours, facing criticism for initially omitting the mention of the minor's age.
The controversy also impacted Dr Disrespect's involvement with Midnight Society, his game development studio. While Midnight Society cited upholding its principles in severing ties with him, Dr Disrespect described the decision as mutual and apologized to his team, community, and family.
Despite the fallout, Dr Disrespect plans a return to streaming after an extended break, stating he feels relieved to have addressed the situation and refuting accusations of predatory behavior.
