Akupara Games and Tmesis Studio's latest adventure game, Universe for Sale, is now available. Akupara Games has a strong track record this year, with successful releases like The Darkside Detective series and Zoeti.
Is the Universe Actually for Sale?
The game unfolds on a Jupiter space station, a bizarre marketplace shrouded in acid rain and mystery. Orangutans with surprising wit work the docks, and cultists barter flesh for enlightenment. The universe itself is for sale, thanks to Lila, a woman with the unusual ability to create universes from her hand.
The game begins in the dilapidated mining colony shantytown. You play as the Master, a skeletal cultist from the Cult of Detachment—a character both unsettling and intriguing.
Exploring the ramshackle colony, filled with quirky shops, you eventually encounter Honin's Tea House, Lila's establishment. Lila's enigmatic nature slowly unfolds as you shift between her perspective and the Master's throughout the gameplay.
Playing as Lila involves creating universes in a captivating mini-game, mixing and matching ingredients to produce visually stunning worlds. Meanwhile, the Master's journey delves into the Cult of Detachment's philosophies and encounters with the Church of Many Gods.
The narrative unfolds gradually, prompting players to speculate on the underlying mysteries. Each character, whether human, skeletal, or robotic, possesses a unique story, and the richly detailed world encourages exploration.
