The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.
Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the elder Witcher's trilogy concludes. The trailer depicts Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, hinting at a darker storyline than initially perceived.
While an official release date remains elusive, considering the development times of previous titles (Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077), a three-to-four-year timeframe seems plausible. Given the anticipated release window, The Witcher 4 is likely to be a current-generation console exclusive, targeting PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC simultaneously. A Switch release (perhaps on a future Switch iteration) remains a possibility, though less certain than previous entries.
Though gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer showcases familiar elements like potions, Signs, and magical abilities. A notable addition appears to be Ciri's chain, used for both combat and spellcasting.
Voice actor Doug Cockle confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, though not in a central role, possibly acting as a mentor figure. This is further suggested by the elderly Witcher's voiceover heard in the trailer.
