Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana presents numerous challenging boss encounters, but the initial clash with Dularn, the Creeping Shadow, often proves a significant hurdle for players. This first major boss fight represents a substantial difficulty spike. It's a true test of skill, and multiple attempts are common before victory. However, understanding Dularn's attack patterns makes this fight significantly easier.
How to Defeat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana
The battle begins with Dularn encased in a protective barrier. During this phase, he's invulnerable, and the focus is solely on evasion. Once the barrier dissipates, players have a brief window to inflict damage. Dularn's health varies based on the chosen difficulty setting. While you can retreat to regain strength, defeating Dularn is mandatory to progress.
Avoid contact with Dularn while his barrier is active; touching him results in damage. Attempting to attack during this phase is futile and will likely lead to defeat.
Dularn's Sword Attacks
Dularn unleashes various sword attacks:
- Overhead Assault: Swords descend from above, striking directly at the player.
- X-Formation: Swords form an X, then home in on the player.
- Linear Thrust: A straight line of swords advances toward the player.
These homing attacks can be challenging. The best strategy while the barrier is up is to maintain a wide, circling movement to dodge the first two attacks. However, depending on sword positioning, jumping is crucial for additional protection. For the linear thrust, a well-timed jump just before impact is essential.
When Dularn's barrier drops, unleash your attacks. He'll teleport after taking sufficient damage. Upon reappearing, maintain distance; he'll immediately restore his barrier and inflict damage if you're too close.
Dularn's Energy Blasts
Dularn employs two projectile attacks:
Fireballs
Dodge these fireballs by moving between them or jumping over them. Combining movement and jumping maximizes evasion.
Arcing Slash
This large blue slash is unavoidable without a jump; there are no gaps to exploit. This attack often coincides with damage opportunities, serving as a signal to attack Dularn.
Mastering Dularn's attack patterns is key to victory; grinding levels isn't necessary.
