Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 with Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

Author : Harper Update:May 14,2025

Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 right under our noses. In a celebratory move for reaching 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team shared a video on social media on April 25. The clip features Ada Wong whispering to one of gaming's most iconic villains, followed by a scene of Leon surrounded by an infected horde wearing party hats, making their way to the church.

The video takes a fun turn with Dr. Salvador playing his chainsaw like a guitar to a rock song, and Leon fist-pumping in front of a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign. You can watch the entire video below:

Eagle-eyed fans noticed something intriguing when the sign is turned on its side: the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which is the number 9. While it might seem coincidental, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank, essential for forming the "IX," was missing in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was added deliberately.

One surprised viewer commented, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi said at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7], but I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game will be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
