While exploring the vast landscapes of Wyveria in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, you'll encounter a variety of formidable creatures, including the swift and perilous Xu Wu. Though not as daunting as Nu Udra, Xu Wu still poses a significant challenge due to its speed and agility.

Keep Your Guard Up

Xu Wu is an exceptionally agile boss in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Its unpredictable movements can be frustrating to anticipate, especially given its unique shape. Similar to Nu Udra, Xu Wu's black skin makes it challenging to discern its front from its back. With multiple arms to contend with, this monster can also vanish into walls, only to re-emerge from the ceiling to ambush you. Be especially vigilant when fighting in its nest, as this is the only area where it can perform this maneuver.

Use Ice Attacks

Xu Wu is particularly vulnerable to the Ice element in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Utilize Ice ammo if you're wielding a ranged weapon, or equip melee gear that can deliver elemental damage. Enhancing your gear with a Frost Jewel decoration will grant you the Ice Attack skill, boosting your effectiveness. Additionally, carrying a Frost Pod can help you deal minor Ice damage, which can be crucial in this fight.

Avoid the Grab Attack

In addition to its tentacle attacks and diving maneuvers, Xu Wu employs a grab attack in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. If ensnared, you'll be unable to use your regular weapons, but you have a brief two-second window to escape. Using your slinger, especially with Frost Pods, is the best way to break free from its grasp.

Attack Xu Wu's Mouth

The mouth of Xu Wu is its weakest point, though it's concealed beneath its body. You'll typically only get a clear shot when it dives towards you. Landing a powerful attack during this window can cause substantial damage and potentially break its mouth, rewarding you with Xu Wu's fang. Use Poison

Xu Wu exhibits a high vulnerability to Poison, with a 3-star weakness. Employing a bow with Poison Coating can be particularly effective in inflicting this status ailment. While other status effects can be tried, steer clear of Sleep, as it's less effective against this monster.

Once you've reduced Xu Wu's health to 20 percent, you can attempt to capture it. Use either a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap for this purpose. Baiting the trap with meat can be effective, or you can use yourself as bait to lure Xu Wu in. After setting the trap, quickly shoot a tranquilizer at the monster to prevent it from escaping. You only have a few seconds to act, so be swift.
