NieR: Automata - Where To Get Beast Hide

NieR: Automata offers a vast array of weapons, allowing for diverse playstyles across multiple playthroughs. Each weapon boasts multiple upgrade levels, extending their viability and enabling players to utilize their favorites throughout the entire game.

Weapon upgrades are readily available at the Resistance Camp, but require specific resources. One crucial material, Beast Hides, isn't readily obtained; this guide details efficient farming methods.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar. These creatures randomly appear in specific map areas, generally avoiding players and robots. Their white icons on the mini-map distinguish them from machines (black icons). Farming wildlife is less straightforward than farming machines due to their less frequent spawns; strategic location knowledge is key.

Moose and boar are exclusive to the ruined city and forest zones. The animal's aggression depends on the level difference; higher-level animals may flee or attack proactively, while those significantly stronger than the player might become aggressive upon close proximity. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging, even against similarly leveled creatures.

Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying encounters.

Since wildlife doesn't continuously respawn during the main story, players must actively hunt them while exploring. Wildlife and machine respawning follows these patterns:

  • Fast traveling instantly respawns all enemies and wildlife.
  • Traveling a sufficient distance respawns enemies and wildlife in previously visited areas.
  • Triggering story events can also respawn nearby enemies and wildlife.

There's no guaranteed, efficient Beast Hide farm. Consistently eliminating encountered wildlife in forest and city ruin areas usually yields sufficient hides. The drop rate is relatively high, ensuring that stockpiling excessive hides is unnecessary, unless upgrading more weapons than currently equipped.
