"Switch 2 Rumored Incompatible with Key Accessory"

Summary

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 may not be compatible with the original's charging cable, needing a 60W cord for optimal power.
  • Recent leaks of the Switch 2 show similarities to the original console's design.
  • Nintendo's new console is expected to be revealed by March 2025.

Rumors suggest that the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 might not be compatible with the original system's charger cable. As the gaming community eagerly awaits official news on Nintendo's next flagship console, expected to be revealed by March 2025, a flurry of leaks and unverified rumors have been circulating online.

Recent leaks, including an alleged photo of the Nintendo Switch 2, hint at a design that retains the iconic look of the original Switch with notable enhancements. Images of the new console's magnetic Joy-Con controllers have also surfaced, supporting earlier claims about their connectivity in tablet mode.

Journalist Laura Kate Dale recently shared a photo on BlueSky (via VGC) purportedly showing the Nintendo Switch 2's charging dock. According to Dale's sources, the Switch 2 will come with a 60W charging cable, suggesting that the original Switch's power cord may not be sufficient for optimal charging when the console is docked. While it may be possible to use the old cable, doing so might not be the most efficient, and a 60W cable is recommended for best performance.

Old Switch Charging Cable Might Not Work with Switch 2

Amid the excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2, various other rumors have emerged. Leaks about the development kits sent to game developers hint at upcoming titles, including a new Mario Kart sequel and Monolith Soft's Project X Zone. In terms of hardware, the Switch 2 is rumored to boast graphical capabilities comparable to the PlayStation 4 Pro, though some sources suggest it might be slightly less powerful.

While the Nintendo Switch 2 will come with its own charging cable, the rumored incompatibility with the original Switch's cable could be an issue for those who misplace their new charger. If Laura Kate Dale's information is accurate, gamers should avoid using the old Switch cable as a substitute to ensure optimal performance.
