FFXIV Mobile Version Listed in China's Lineup of Approved Games

Exciting news for fans of the Final Fantasy series: a mobile version of the beloved MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV, might be on the horizon, thanks to a collaboration between Square Enix and Tencent. A recent report from the video game market research firm, Niko Partners, has shed light on this development, listing the game among 15 titles approved by China’s National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) for release in the country. This lineup also includes other high-profile titles such as a mobile and PC version of Rainbow Six, Marvel Snap, Marvel Rivals, and a mobile game based on Dynasty Warriors 8.

While rumors of Tencent developing a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV surfaced last month, neither Tencent nor Square Enix has officially confirmed these efforts. According to Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners, the mobile game is expected to be a standalone MMORPG, distinct from its PC counterpart. However, Ahmad emphasized that this information stems largely from industry chatter and lacks official confirmation.

Tencent, known for its dominance in the mobile gaming market, seems to be playing a key role in Square Enix's strategy to expand its flagship titles across multiple platforms. In May, Square Enix announced a new approach, signaling an "aggressive pursuit of a multiplatform strategy" for its major franchises, including Final Fantasy.
