What’s New in Version 0.16 – The Whispering Depths Update

We’ve deepened the dread. Refined the fear. And made sure the Backrooms never let you go.

🔧 Bug Fixes & Stability Improvements

• Fixed a critical crash that occurred when transitioning between Level 3 (The Yellowed Halls) and Level 4 (The Humming Corridors).
• Resolved audio desync issues in the "Static Chambers" (Level 7), where monster footsteps would play out of sync with movement.
• Patch for the "Door Glitch" – doors now properly close behind you and no longer teleport players into void zones.
• Fixed rare case where players could phase through walls in Level 2 (The Bleak Lobby) due to collision layer misalignment.

🎨 Visual & Audio Enhancements

• New ambient lighting system – Dynamic light decay now reacts to player movement, creating more realistic shadows and tension in dark corridors.
• Enhanced textures on all levels, especially in Level 5 (The Children’s Playroom), with more visible peeling wallpaper, cracked mirrors, and flickering fluorescents.
• Updated soundscapes – Subtle whispers now vary by level, with regional dialects and fragmented phrases. Listen closely: “…don’t look at the ceiling…”
• New monster audio cues – The Hush (Level 6) now emits a low-frequency hum before appearing, increasing player anxiety.

🌐 New Gameplay Additions

• Hidden Journal Entries: Scattered across Levels 1–8, these fragmented notes reveal glimpses of previous travelers’ fates. Some contain warnings. Some scream.
• New Environment Interaction: In Level 4 (The Humming Corridors), players can now toggle light switches to temporarily disable the hum – but doing so may attract attention.
• New Safe Room Mechanic: Certain rooms now have “pulsing doors” — breakable glass doors that, when shattered, reveal a brief safe passage… but only if you act fast.

🧩 Level Balancing & Monster AI

• The Stalker (Level 3) now uses environmental cues (e.g., flickering lights, distant screams) to predict player movement — no more predictable patrols.
• The Glaive (Level 8) now has a new attack pattern: it will leap from walls if you stay still too long.
• Spawn rates reduced in Levels 6 and 7 to increase tension and strategic pacing.

• Reduced load times between levels by up to 40%.
