Monster Hunter Wilds simplifies many series mechanics, minimizing the need for extensive monster tracking. However, one exception remains: the elusive Black Flame. This guide explains how to locate it.
Tracking the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds
Around the midpoint of Monster Hunter Wilds' main story, Chapter 3 introduces the Black Flame. After a brief appearance, it retreats to the Oilwell Basin. Your mission: find and defeat it.
Exit Base Camp and head towards Zone 9 of the Oilwell Basin, as shown in the map below.

Along the way, you'll discover tar tracks. Examining them will reveal the Black Flame's trail, automatically guiding your scoutflies. Follow the green path illuminated by the scoutflies in Zone 9, leading you to a large flaming crater and the Black Flame.
The Black Flame (also known as Nu Udra) is a tentacled beast wielding fire-based attacks. Strategically targeting its tentacles first simplifies the fight, granting easier access to its vulnerable core for optimal material gathering.
To combat the region's intense heat, carry several Cool Drinks to prevent continuous health depletion.
This concludes the guide on locating the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds. For more Monster Hunter Wilds tips and tricks, including Palico language changes and monster capture strategies, explore The Escapist.
