Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Introduces Arachnophobia Mode and Accessibility Enhancements
Activision has unveiled exciting new features for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, launching October 25th and available day one on Game Pass. This launch has sparked analyst debate regarding its impact on Xbox's subscription service.
Black Ops 6 Zombies: A New Arachnophobia-Friendly Option
To cater to players with arachnophobia, Black Ops 6 Zombies mode now includes a toggleable setting that alters the appearance of spider-like enemies. This doesn't affect gameplay, but instead provides an aesthetic change. As seen in the image below, the arachnid zombies lose their legs, giving the unsettling impression they're floating. While the developers haven't specified if the hitbox changes, it's likely adjusted accordingly.
Another welcome addition is the "Pause and Save" feature for solo players in Round-Based mode. This allows saving progress while retaining full health, a significant improvement considering the demanding nature of the mode.
Black Ops 6 and the Game Pass Conundrum: A Potential Subscriber Surge?
The day-one Game Pass launch of Black Ops 6 – a first for the Call of Duty franchise – has analysts divided on its impact. While some predict a substantial increase in Game Pass subscribers (potentially 3-4 million, according to Michael Pachter), others offer more conservative estimates (around 2.5 million, or a 10% increase in Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, from Piers Harding-Rolls). This latter prediction also accounts for existing subscribers upgrading their subscriptions.
Dr. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games highlights the pressure on Xbox to prove the Game Pass model's viability, stating that the success of Black Ops 6 on the platform is crucial for Microsoft's gaming division.
