The Blood of Dawnwalker Devs Are Striving For Witcher 3 Levels of Quality

The Blood of Dawnwalker: Aiming for AAA Quality

A 30-40 Hour Main Campaign

In an interview with GamesRadar, creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz clarified the studio's aspirations. Despite being a smaller team releasing their debut game, Rebel Wolves is striving for AAA quality comparable to The Witcher 3. Addressing the often blurry line between AA and AAA, Tomaszkiewicz stated, "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."

While Rebel Wolves is a new studio, its team boasts extensive experience. Composed of former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, Rebel Wolves brings a wealth of knowledge and skill. Mateusz and his brother Konrad founded the studio to pursue greater creative freedom than they found within a larger AAA environment.

Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged the smaller scope of their project: "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours – we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He specified a targeted 30-40 hour campaign, contrasting it with the length of some AAA titles. He questioned whether sheer playtime should be the sole measure of AAA quality, citing examples like Call of Duty which, despite shorter campaigns, are undeniably AAA titles.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in Vale Sangora. Players assume the role of Coen, a young peasant imbued with vampiric powers after a fateful encounter. Coen’s quest to save his ailing sister unfolds amidst the challenges and conflicts of this dark and mystical land.

While a release date remains unannounced, The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A gameplay reveal is expected sometime in Summer 2025.
