Firaxis Games Delays Civilization 7's Inaugural In-Game Event
Civilization 7 Prioritizes Quality-of-Life Enhancements
Firaxis Games announced on February 28, 2025, that Civilization 7 (Civ 7)'s first in-game event, "Natural Wonder Battle," will be delayed. This decision allows the team to focus on essential quality-of-life improvements requested by the community. Their development roadmap outlines these changes, prioritizing player experience over the initial event launch.
Update 1.1.0, releasing March 4, 2025 (with a separate Nintendo Switch release date), will omit the planned event. Firaxis stated, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access launch, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with criticism particularly aimed at the user interface (UI). Firaxis acknowledges this feedback, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI," and assuring players that continuous improvements are underway.
Update 1.1.0 Addresses Community Feedback
Update 1.1.0 directly addresses community concerns. While full patch notes will be released upon launch, key improvements include: a free new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle; significant UI adjustments; balancing changes to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, enhancing AI performance in Cultural Victories; and the launch of the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection (automatically granted to those who own the relevant editions or collection).
Next Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025
Further UI improvements are slated for the next major update on March 25, 2025 (subject to change). Firaxis emphasizes that this is a part of a broader, multi-month plan to significantly enhance the UI.
Beyond March, Civ 7's development roadmap includes features such as a "one more turn" option extending gameplay past the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), multiplayer improvements, and more. Firaxis notes that while some of these improvements may arrive as early as April, others will require more development time.
Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates!
