Unlocking Multiple Pets in Stardew Valley

Increasing pet friendship

Initially, you can adopt one pet. The 1.6 update introduced the ability to have multiple pets. To unlock this, you must maximize your friendship with your existing pet. Daily interactions are key: fill their water bowl (except on rainy/snowy days) and pet them (indicated by a heart). Check their friendship level in the "Animals" tab of the pause menu. Once maxed, Marnie will contact you about adopting additional pets (or at the start of Year 2 if you didn't adopt a pet initially).

After receiving Marnie's message, visit her shop (9 AM - 4 PM, closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Select the "Adopt Pets" option. Choose from twelve pet licenses: five cat variations, five dog variations, and two turtle types. Each license has a cost:

Obtaining Pet Supplies in Stardew Valley

Visit Robin's shop to commission Pet Bowls (5,000g and 25 Hardwood each). These are essential for maintaining pet friendship and preventing them from running away. Marnie's shop offers optional decorative items like doghouses and cat trees.
