Unlocking Caldarus as a romanceable character in *Fields of Mistria* is now possible with the game's Early Access update in March 2025. Here's a detailed guide on how to initiate his romance questline, along with event details and the best gift choices to win his heart.

How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To romance Caldarus in *Fields of Mistria*, you'll need to break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you must offer four items at the seal: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot.

Once you complete the offering, a cutscene will trigger where the Mines Priestess warns the farmer to leave or risk being sealed with the scroll. As the farmer's health depletes, Caldarus appears, transforming into his human form. He grants you the Dragon's Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. In this new form, you can engage in daily conversations and gift-giving with Caldarus, similar to other romanceable NPCs in Mistria.

After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can be found at his temple in the Deep Woods. Use the Dragon's Breath spell to permanently unlock this area on your map.

Caldarus' Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking Caldarus as a romanceable character with the March 2025 update, he starts with six hearts, which is the current heart level cap. As a result, there are no additional heart events for Caldarus at this time, though future updates are expected to introduce more.

Currently, there are a few cutscenes involving Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the start of the game that introduces Mistria's magic system and mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves the farmer from being sealed and reveals his human form before retreating to the Deep Woods to regain his strength. Both scenes are part of the game's natural progression.

With the March 2025 update, you can also trigger a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, which takes place on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in *Fields of Mistria*, allowing you to take any romanceable NPC with at least four hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts at six hearts, you can automatically invite him. To attend the festival with Caldarus, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28, then meet up to confirm your attendance. This will trigger a cutscene of your date.

At the Summit, Caldarus thanks you for the invitation and shares insights on the stars and the historical Mistrian tradition known as Starbinding. The conversation delves into existential topics, such as the nature of connections and the necessity of villains in stories. Caldarus muses about the possibility of having attended the event with you in a past life, then, feeling fatigued, invites you to spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from his temple.
