The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, a winner of 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a highly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, who portrays the pilot John Blackthorn, will reprise his role and also step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2.
Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays the lead role of Lord Yoshii Toranaga, signed on for the second season back in May last year following the show's renewal. Originally conceived as a limited series, Shōgun has now elevated Sanada to the role of executive producer, building on his contributions to the first season. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in Vancouver, the same location as the original series, in January 2026.
FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was based on James Clavell's novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons:"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”
Fans eagerly await the return of this exceptional series, with hopes set on seeing new episodes by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation builds as we look forward to the next chapter in this gripping tale.
