A potential Crash Bandicoot 5 may have been shelved, according to hints dropped by former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole. This revelation follows Kole's comments on another canceled project, "Project Dragon," sparking speculation online.
"Project Dragon" and the Unreleased Crash 5
Kole clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that "Project Dragon" was a new IP developed with Phoenix Labs, not a Spyro title as some initially believed. However, he added a cryptic comment hinting at a canceled Crash Bandicoot 5: "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," he stated. This announcement understandably caused significant disappointment among fans.
The news comes after Toys For Bob's transition from Activision Blizzard to an independent studio earlier this year, coinciding with Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now collaborating with Microsoft Xbox for their next project, details remain scarce.
The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (2020), achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending live service in March 2024.
With Toys For Bob's newfound independence, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open. However, the fate of this potentially beloved sequel remains uncertain, leaving fans anxiously awaiting further news.
