DQ3 Remake: Yellow Orb Acquisition Guide

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, finding the starting point can be challenging. The key is understanding the role of Merchantburg, a town initially represented as "???" on the map.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg is accessible. Its quest marker appears in the northeast corner of the world map. Sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Merchantburg

While orb collection order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early is advisable. The town requires time to develop before the Yellow Orb becomes available. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.

Establishing Merchantburg

Before heading to Merchantburg, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route.

Upon arrival at Merchantburg, enter the single building. Speak to the old man; he needs a merchant to found the town. Offer your newly hired merchant. They'll leave your party and establish the town, giving it their name (e.g., Christopherburg).

Merchantburg's Growth and Subsequent Visits

After establishing Merchantburg, proceed to obtain the Purple Orb (Orochi's Lair) and the Blue Orb (Gaia's Navel). You'll receive notifications prompting returns to Merchantburg as it grows through five stages. Each visit reveals a larger town, culminating in a large cabaret's construction. On your fourth visit, you'll notice tension between your merchant and some townsfolk.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb

On your fifth and final visit (at night), you'll find the merchant missing. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his former residence.

Speak to the imprisoned merchant; they'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to the merchant's house. A quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground there to uncover the Yellow Orb.

The Yellow Orb is typically the penultimate orb acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
