Crystal Dynamics and the UK-based design studio Lost in Cult have exciting news for fans of the Legacy of Kain series. Following the December 2024 release of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered, the developers are expanding the franchise with two new projects: an encyclopedia and a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) set in the haunting world of Nosgoth.

Crystal Dynamics, the acclaimed California-based game developer, has teamed up with Lost In Cult and Dutch art dealership Cook and Becker to bring these ambitious projects to life. "We’re incredibly excited to be diving back into the world of Nosgoth with these two passion projects," said Ryan Brown of Lost In Cult.

The Book of Nosgoth: A Comprehensive Encyclopedia

The first project, The Book of Nosgoth, is an official encyclopedia dedicated to the gothic universe of Nosgoth, the iconic setting of the Legacy of Kain series. Authored by Nic Reuben of Rock Paper Shotgun, this encyclopedia will serve as a definitive guide to Nosgoth’s locations, factions, and inhabitants. It will include a detailed timeline that chronicles the epic rivalry between Kain and Raziel.

Beyond the lore, The Book of Nosgoth will offer readers a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the Legacy of Kain games. This will include original concept art, sketches, maps, and exclusive interviews with the developers. The encyclopedia will also explore the creation of all five Legacy of Kain titles, providing a deep dive into the series’ production history.

Legacy of Kain: Scourge of Sarafan - A New TTRPG Experience

The second project, Legacy of Kain: Scourge of Sarafan, is an atmospheric TTRPG set in Nosgoth during the Sarafan Order’s crusade against vampires. This game will use the critically acclaimed MÖRK BORG ruleset, promising a mechanics-light, high-stakes gameplay experience. Players will take on the roles of warrior priests from the Sarafan Order.

Legacy of Kain: Scourge of Sarafan will feature six playable classes, unique weapons and spells, an official bestiary of nocturnal horrors, and the vast landscape of Nosgoth. Players can forge their own paths through campaigns centered on vampire hunts, uncovering Nosgoth’s hidden history, and venturing into the spectral realm.
