Contrary to the official statement citing the need for additional polish, these insiders suggest that the game is facing significant challenges, which may be the true cause of the delay.
Insider Extas1s has revealed that the team at Playground Games is grappling with the ForzaTech engine. Originally crafted for racing games, this engine is reportedly ill-suited for the demands of an open-world RPG like Fable. Extas1s further claims that initial gameplay iterations were "not particularly engaging," necessitating a major overhaul of game mechanics and adjustments to the game's pacing.
Adding to the concerns, insider HeisenbergFX4 reports that Fable is far from being complete, raising doubts about whether it will meet the 2026 deadline. With Microsoft planning to launch Fable on PlayStation as well, the game must meet the stringent quality expectations of Sony's user base. HeisenbergFX4 emphasizes that, following the disappointing reception of Starfield and the mixed reviews of Avowed, Microsoft cannot risk another underwhelming release.
