Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: No DLC Planned, But Modders Welcome (With a Request)
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently shed light on the upcoming PC release, addressing the possibility of DLC and offering a message to the modding community. Read on for the details.
No Immediate Plans for DLC, But Player Demand Could Change That
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints have prioritized completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that finishing the series is their top priority. However, he left the door open, indicating that significant player demand for additional content could influence future decisions.
A Plea to the Modding Community
Although the game lacks official mod support, Hamaguchi acknowledged the inevitable interest from the modding community. He extended a welcome to creative modding, but with a crucial request: to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
This reasonable request recognizes the potential for misuse within the modding community while encouraging the positive contributions that mods can bring to enhance the gaming experience, from improved textures to entirely new features.
PC Version Enhancements and Challenges
The PC release boasts upgraded graphics, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing previous criticisms of the uncanny valley effect in character models. Higher-end PCs will also benefit from enhanced 3D models and textures beyond the PS5 capabilities.
However, porting the game's mini-games presented a significant challenge, requiring extensive work to ensure proper key configuration and functionality.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second chapter of the Remake trilogy, originally launched on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim. The PC version arrives on January 23, 2025, via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
