Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to LA Wildfires
Square Enix has temporarily halted automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The suspension, implemented just one day after the resumption of demolitions, is a precautionary measure to accommodate players potentially impacted by the wildfires.
The game typically employs a 45-day auto-demolition timer to free up housing plots from inactive players or Free Companies. This timer resets when the owner logs in, incentivizing continued subscription. However, Square Enix routinely pauses these timers during significant real-world events to prevent unintended consequences for players facing disruptions. Previous pauses have been implemented in response to events such as Hurricane Helene.
While a restart of auto-demolitions was previously announced, this new suspension, effective January 9th, 2025, at 11:20 PM Eastern Time, prioritizes player well-being amidst the wildfires. No timeline has been provided for the resumption of the timers. Players can still reset their individual timers by logging into their homes during this pause.
This latest suspension adds to a busy start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, following the recent conclusion of a free login campaign. The impact of the LA wildfires extends beyond the game, with other events, including a Critical Role campaign and an NFL playoff game, also affected. Square Enix is monitoring the situation and will provide updates regarding the resumption of automatic housing demolitions.
