GTA 6 May Eventually Come to PC: Insights from Take-Two CEO and Rockstar Games' History
GTA 6 enthusiasts eagerly await news on its PC release, and recent statements from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick hint at a promising future. In a February 10, 2025, interview with IGN, Zelnick discussed the platform strategy for their upcoming titles, shedding light on the potential PC release of GTA 6.
GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed but Teased
While GTA 6 has not been officially announced for PC, Zelnick's comments suggest that a PC version could be in the works. He noted that while some games, like Civilization 7, will launch simultaneously on console and PC, Rockstar Games typically adopts a staggered release strategy. He stated, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."
Looking at past releases, GTA 5 initially launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 debuted on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with the PC version arriving in November 2019. These patterns fuel speculation that GTA 6 will follow suit, though fans had hoped for a simultaneous PC launch.
Take-Two's Confidence in GTA 6 Across Platforms
Zelnick emphasized the increasing significance of the PC market, noting that PC versions of multiplatform games can account for up to 40% of total sales. He observed, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."
Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's impact. He believes the game will not only sell well across all platforms but also boost console sales for Sony and Xbox. He remarked, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles."
Zelnick further predicted a surge in console sales in 2025 due to the release schedule of major titles, including GTA 6. He concluded, "So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been confirmed. Stay updated with the latest developments by visiting our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Releasing on Switch 2
During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed interest in expanding their game lineup to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He highlighted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and noted the evolving nature of the Switch audience. "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release," he said.
Zelnick acknowledged that the Switch has matured to support a broader audience, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." He confirmed that Civilization 7 will be available on Switch, and while no specific plans for other games were disclosed, he added, "we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
