Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced a significant leadership change, with Hideaki Nishino being appointed as the sole CEO of the company, effective April 1, 2025. This news comes from a recent press release, which also highlighted other key executive transitions within Sony.
Sony's current CFO, Hiroki Totoki, is set to take on the role of president and CEO of the entire Sony Corporation, succeeding Kenichiro Yoshida, who has been at the helm since April 2018, following Kazuo Hirai. Additionally, Lin Tao, who currently serves as SVP of finance, corporate development, and strategy, will step into the role of CFO.
This announcement follows last year's news that Nishino and Hermen Hulst were to share leadership responsibilities at SIE after the retirement of former CEO Jim Ryan. Under the previous arrangement, Hulst was appointed as the head of PlayStation Studios, while Nishino was tasked with overseeing the hardware and technology sectors. With Nishino's new role as sole CEO, he will now lead the entire SIE operation and continue to drive the platform business group, whereas Hulst will maintain his focus on PlayStation Studios.
Hideaki Nishino, who joined Sony in 2000, has previously held the position of SVP of the platform experience group. In his statement regarding the promotion, Nishino expressed his honor in taking the helm at SIE and emphasized the company's commitment to leveraging technology and creativity to enhance entertainment experiences for everyone. He highlighted plans to expand the PlayStation community through new initiatives, including IP expansion and technological innovation.
"I am truly honored to take the helm at Sony Interactive Entertainment," Nishino stated. "Technology and creativity are two of our biggest strengths as we continue to focus on developing experiences that deliver entertainment for everyone. We will continue to grow the PlayStation community in new ways, such as IP expansion, while also delivering the best in technology innovation. I want to thank Hermen for his expertise and leadership as he continues his role as CEO, Studio Business Group. I am deeply grateful for the PlayStation community and their continued support and I am very excited for what the future holds."
