Infinity Nikki: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Breathtaking Open World
The highly anticipated open-world fashion game, Infinity Nikki, launches December 4th (EST/PST). A recent 25-minute documentary unveils the years of dedication and passion poured into its creation, featuring interviews with key team members.
The journey began in December 2019, when the Nikki series producer envisioned an open-world adventure for Nikki. Secrecy shrouded the project's early stages, with a separate office used to maintain confidentiality. Team building and foundational work continued for over a year.
Game designer Sha Dingyu highlights the unprecedented challenge of merging the Nikki IP's dress-up mechanics with an open-world setting, a process that required building a framework from scratch.
This ambitious project marks the fifth installment in the Nikki franchise, the first to grace PC and consoles alongside mobile platforms. The team chose to elevate the series beyond its mobile roots, pursuing technological and product advancements to evolve the Nikki IP. Their commitment is evident, even in the producer's clay model of the Grand Millewish Tree, a testament to the passion driving the project.
The documentary showcases the vibrant world of Miraland, emphasizing the Grand Millewish Tree and its whimsical Faewish Sprites. The lively NPCs, with their independent routines, add to the immersive experience, as noted by game designer Xiao Li.
A World-Class Team
The game's stunning visuals are a result of a remarkable team. In addition to the core Nikki series team, Infinity Nikki boasts international talent, including Lead Sub Director Kentaro "Tomiken" Tominaga (The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild) and concept artist Andrzej Dybowski (The Witcher 3).
Since development began on December 28th, 2019, the team has dedicated over 1800 days to bringing Infinity Nikki to life. Prepare for an unforgettable journey through Miraland with Nikki and Momo this December!
