Mai Shiranui Boosts Street Fighter 6 Popularity

Street Fighter 6 enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement as they return to the game to test out the latest addition to the roster: Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury series. This iconic fighter marks the third character of the second season, bringing a significant boost to the game's popularity.

As of December 31, 2024, Street Fighter 6, developed by Capcom, has achieved impressive sales, reaching 4.4 million copies. While some fans have felt that the game lacked content in the past, the introduction of Mai Shiranui has been a welcome change. On the day of her release, the peak concurrent players on Steam soared to over 63,000, a stark increase from the usual 24,000 to 27,000, marking the highest player count since May 2024.

Mai Shiranui is accessible to Battle Pass holders, adding value to their subscription. In the World Tour mode, players can deepen their connection with Mai, learn her unique moves, and then put their skills to the test in the Battle Hub. To complement her introduction, a second costume inspired by her appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has been added, giving players more options to personalize their fighter.

Adding to the excitement, the Battle Hub features a temporary guest, Professor Woshige, a renowned figure in the fighting game community and a developer. Players can try out this special character until March 10. Alongside these additions, the game has introduced new ranks and rewards in the Master League, enhancing the competitive aspect of Street Fighter 6.

Capcom has also released a trailer showcasing Mai Shiranui's dynamic techniques, further fueling fans' anticipation and engagement with the game.
