Mario vs. Sonic: Unofficial cinematic crossover trailer unveiled

A dream matchup many have long anticipated: Sonic and Mario facing off on the silver screen. Fans have frequently speculated about a potential collaboration between Sega and Nintendo.

KH Studio has fueled this desire with a concept trailer showcasing a crossover movie featuring the two iconic characters. The familiar, vibrant Mushroom Kingdom is juxtaposed with Sonic's high-speed action sequences, offering a glimpse into what such a film could achieve.

The immense success of the Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog movie adaptations, collectively raking in over $2 billion worldwide, served as the inspiration for this captivating trailer.

Despite the historical rivalry between Nintendo and Sega, making a collaborative movie featuring their respective mascots remains improbable. Nevertheless, the concept has resonated strongly with audiences.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to sequels: Super Mario Bros. at the Movies 2 slated for 2026, and Sonic 4 at the Movies in 2027.

A noteworthy partnership emerged in December: McDonald's, Sega, and Paramount joined forces. Sonic's presence expanded into the United States following the release of McDonald's Sonic toys in 2022, sparking fan hopes for a collaboration on a third film. After much speculation, McDonald's unveiled a new Sonic-themed Happy Meal for Colombian consumers.

The initial commercial highlighted twelve unique hedgehog designs, though a US release wasn't initially considered. However, McDonald's subsequently announced a US launch as well. Each Sonic Happy Meal includes a special Sonic the Hedgehog 3 toy, a side, a drink, and a choice of Chicken McNuggets or a hamburger.
