If you ever doubted that *Rune Slayer* is an MMORPG, let the presence of fishing in the game be your proof. While we're joking about the fishing trope in MMORPGs, understanding how to fish in *Rune Slayer* can be a bit tricky. We've navigated these waters and are here to guide you through the process. Spoiler alert: it's not as straightforward as in *Fisch*.

Before you start reeling in the big ones, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**. You'll find this white-haired NPC at one of the piers where the Baracuda swims. Simon's task for you is to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he'll reward you with a Tackle Box. The quotation marks around "fish" hint at a twist, which we'll get to shortly.
To catch these "fish," you'll need a fishing rod and some bait or tackle. Conveniently, Simon the Fisherman sells exactly what you need.
**Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon**. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we recommend buying 10 to be on the safe side. Here's an important note: **you cannot equip the bait**. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory, and although you don't equip them, they're used automatically when you fish. Each time you catch something, one Worm is removed from your inventory.
There's a catch (pun intended): **you won't be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items in your inventory**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Once we had 5 Worms, the fish started biting. We suggest placing the Worms in your hotbar to keep an eye on your bait count. With these essentials in hand, you're ready to move on to the next step.
How to Catch Fish in Rune Slayer
First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can't equip it in the traditional sense, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it ready to fish.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water**—the pier next to Simon the Fisherman is a great spot. Keep an eye on the bobber, and when you see it **ripple once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
However, this method isn't foolproof. **You won't catch something every time**, and often, you'll pull up junk instead of fish. The good news is, **Simon counts junk as a catch**, which explains the earlier quotation marks around "fish."
So, your goal is to cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything five times. In our experience, we caught only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.
**Once you've caught 5 "fish," return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest**. He'll reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to free up your inventory space for more important items.
