The Witcher’s Newest Spinoff Animated Movie
Set in a Seaside Village in the Continent
"The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep" is slated to premiere on Netflix on February 11, 2025, as announced by Netflix Tudum, the platform's official news source. This animated feature draws its inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski's short story, "A Little Sacrifice," featured in the collection "Sword of Destiny."
The narrative unfolds in a picturesque seaside village, embroiled in a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. This unique setting prompts a kingdom from the Continent to enlist the services of a Witcher. Unlike the usual adversaries such as Basilisks and Cockatrices, Geralt faces the challenge of battling merpeople in this film.
Doug Cockle returns to voice the iconic Geralt, with Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra reprising their roles as Jaskier and Yennefer of Vengerberg, respectively. Christina Wren, known from the Will Trent TV series, joins the cast to voice a new character, Essi Daven.Andrzej Sapkowski, the mastermind behind The Witcher novels, serves as a creative consultant for the film. The screenplay is penned by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin, who have also contributed to the live-action series. Kang Hei Chul, the storyboard artist from "The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf," directs this animated venture.
Takes Place During Season 1 of The Witcher’s Live-Adaptation Series
"The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep" is strategically set between episodes 5 and 6 of The Witcher's first season. Following the events of episode 5, "Bottled Appetites," where Geralt and Yennefer reunite in Rinde after dealing with a Djinn, Geralt is commissioned by an unnamed kingdom to address a monster-related issue along its shores.
Given Rinde's proximity to the coastlines of Redania and Temeria, the film's setting is likely nestled between these two nations. Specifically, if adhering to the setting of "A Little Sacrifice," the story may unfold in Bremervoord City in Temeria, under the rule of Duke Agloval. As the release date approaches, fans will discover whether the film closely follows the short story's narrative or introduces new elements to the saga.
